THE ORGANISERS of this years Bridport Hat Festival are gearing-up for another successful event.

This year’s programme includes the popular Hat Auction at the Bridport and West Dorset Club on September 3, the opening concert at the Arts Centre on September 4 which will feature Hank Wangford and his Lost Cowboys, and the Street Festival on September 5.

What's more, there will be new additions to the itinerary on September 5, with fringe events like the Mad Hatters Tea Party hosted by the Allington Hillbillies at 4pm in Cooper's Field, Allington, a Ceilidh run by Bridport Ceilidhs at St Mary’s Church House Hall at 7.30pm.

There will even be a Mad Hatters Lunch at the Ropemakers on September 6 at 12pm.

Brian Atkinson, chairman of the Hat Festival committee, said: "The Hat Amnesty has now been declared, so take your unwanted hats to the hat shop in West Street where they will be treated sympathetically and prepared for a new life after re-homing at the Hat Auction."

A quiz hosted by the Ropemakers has already raised £126.50 for Brain Tumour Research; the charity the festival donates to.
