FIREFIGHTERS were called to a bonfire that was lit near to a thatched cottage in Symondsbury.
A spokesman for Dorset Fire and Rescue Service said: "We received the call at around 11.15pm on Wednesday and one crew from Bridport attended the incident.
"The fire was found to be a controlled burn, a bonfire, but it was quite close to a thatched cottage so they had to put it out.
"The crew was there until around 12.30am."
The spokesman added that anyone planning to light a bonfire should let Dorset Fire and Rescue Service know by calling 01305 753166.
