A TINY runner has raised hundreds of pounds for a hospice where her granddad was looked after before he died.

Four-year-old Georgia Ferris has raised more than £600 for the Weldmar Hospicecare Trust after dashing across the finish line at the first ever Colour Run at Lodmoor Country Park in Weymouth on Saturday.

Georgia completed the run with her parents, Anthony and Alanah Ferris in memory of her granddad Stephen Marley - who died in February 2013.

Stephen was well-known in the local water sport community, having managed the West Bay Angling Centre for 25 years.

Alanah said she was very proud of her daughter for taking on the 4km run in memory of Stephen.

“My dad died two years ago after being at the Weldmar Hospice and we wanted to do it for him” she said.

“Georgia is only four - so it was so lovely for us to be able to do something together so nice in memory of my dad.

“He was in charge of the Angling Centre for 25 years, so a lot of customers have given donations in memory of him.”

Around 1,100 runners took part in the 2.5 mile run around Lodmoor Country Park on Saturday - raising £60,000 for the charity.

The idea of colour running came over from the United States, and sees runners start off wearing white t-shirts before running the course.

There were four colour stations along the route manned by staff from the events sponsors, who then covered the Weldmar runners in luminous paint.

All those finishing the race were a riot of luminous colour and were then treated to a mass colour throw.

Anthony said: “I’m so proud of my little girl Georgia who ran the Colour Run.

“We wanted to give something back to the kind and caring trust.”

Alanah is pleased to be able to give something back to the West Dorset hospice, after staff comforted her family while her dad was being looked after.

She said: “He was quite young when he died - he was only 52 years old.

“We felt we needed and wanted to give something back to the hospice. The staff were just so helpful - not just with all the care they gave my dad. They were so supportive to us, and helped us through a really difficult time.

“It’s really nice to be able to give something back to them as they really were brilliant and we can't say enough good things about the staff at Weldmar.”
