THE SKY’S the limit for one Bridport woman who is taking part in a Guinness World Record attempt to raise money for charity.

Louise Goligher, 36, who works at the Bridport Glass and Tile Centre, is taking part in the official Guinness World Record attempt for the largest tandem skydiving event, while also raising money for Help for Heroes.

She will be participating in the world’s largest tandem jump with 333 people skydiving in 24 hours.

For her skydive, Mrs Goligher will be descending from a plane over Honiton at 15,000ft, which organisers say is the highest jump possible before oxygen is needed.

As part of her fundraising efforts she has also been selling St Patrick’s Day-themed cakes at her workplace all week for donations to help her reach her £1,000 target.

Mrs Goligher said: “My husband’s actually from Northern Ireland and is an army veteran, so the cause is close to our hearts and so we thought it would be good to make cakes for St Patrick’s Day [as well as doing the jump].

“Skydiving was on my bucket list and it’s something I have always wanted to do, so it’s great that it’s also raising funds for a worthy charity.”

Asked if she was nervous, Mrs Goligher said: “I can’t wait, I don’t really feel fear. I could do it today and every day after.

“My friends were worried but I said it can’t be that bad because otherwise people wouldn’t be allowed to do it.

Mrs Goligher said she has had plenty of support from her brother, who owns Bridport Glass and Tile Centre and is helping sell the cakes, along with Jaxsons deli in Bridport which donated some cakes for the cause too.

She explained how vital Help for Heroes’ work is, saying: “We’d like to give as much money to them as we can so they can continue helping wounded soldiers back into a normal life.

“The charity does so much for our heroes. I was lucky that I got my husband back in one piece.”

Mrs Goligher, who has raised nearly £260, added that she aims to hold many more fundraising events and will be coming up with more event ideas soon.
