BRIDPORT: A growing job club is looking for volunteers to help meet the needs of service users.

Dozens of members of Bridport Job Club take advantage of the sessions run by Skills Training Bridport (STB) - helping people with job applications, writing CVs and IT skills.

But now the club has become so popular, organiser Mark Andrews is appealing for volunteers to help give the members enough support.

“The club is now starting to become too full” he said. “People who come here need one to one support, which is quite difficult to do properly on my own for everyone who needs it.

“It would be great to have another volunteer as I want to give everyone the support they need. We have had situations where we have had to tell people to wait before we see them - and we don't want to discourage people from coming here and taking advantage of the service.”

Bridport Town Council recently handed over a £1,000 grant to the job club - while STB will be working with Weymouth College in order to help young people find apprenticeship schemes.

Anthony Felstead, who has helped organising apprenticeship events, said: “This is where Skills Training Bridport, working in partnership with Weymouth College can really deliver.

“It is key for job seekers to develop their CVs, search and apply for jobs properly and at the same time polish up their interview skills and improve basic functional skills.”

Skills Training Bridport (STB) is also offering one to one IT support as well as life coaching and mentoring, all given voluntarily by members of the community, at its base in the classrooms at West Rivers House.

Mr Andrews added: “I'm not surprised at how popular the job club has become because I know the needs that people have.

“Even if people can help out for an hour or so - it would benefit everyone involved.”

The club is held every Tuesday at Bridport Library, between 2.30pm and 4.30pm.
