AN engine fire in a double-decker bus caused traffic delays in the town centre today, December 17.

One fire engine was sent to the scene at the end of West Street shortly after 2pm, and police directed traffic past the bus at the roundabout near the Bridport police station.

The x31 bus was believed to be in service at the time of the fire and passengers on the bus are thought to have been evacuated.

A Dorset Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson on scene said the small engine fire was out at the time of arrival and firefighters cooled the engine down using one hose reel jet.

The fire was brought under control by 2.30pm and there was minimal damage. The cause of the fire was believed to be an electrical fault.
