EMERGENCY sewer repair works causing traffic chaos in Bridport town centre have been completed almost two weeks earlier than planned.
Repairs had to be carried out on a sewer that had collapsed in East Street, near HSBC bank. It was expected to take three weeks, but workers managed to complete the repairs in eight days.
The work, which started last Monday, June 2 and was completed today, involved the existing traffic lights at the junctions of East Street, West Street and South Street being turned off and replaced with temporary traffic lights.
Carl Little, Wessex Water’s construction manager for the scheme, said: “We were able to complete repairs to our sewer relatively quickly and without affecting any other utilities in the ground.
“We appreciate the patience of local people while work was carried out and apologise for any delays caused by the temporary lights.”
Wessex Water completed the work and arranged for the traffic lights to be removed before today’s - Tuesday’s June 10 - rush hour.
