Staff facing uncertain future

STAFF employed by struggling video and DVD rental firm Blockbuster are facing an uncertain future.

The company, which has a store in East Street, Bridport, went into administration last week, putting more than 4,000 jobs at risk.

Last Saturday, it said it would close 129 of its 528 stores within weeks and put 800 people out of work.

A spokesman said the Bridport branch will remain open for the moment but could not comment any further. Blockbuster, which opened its first store in London in 1989, is the latest retailer to lose in the high street’s struggle against internet competition.

Earlier this month music chain HMV and camera company Jessops both announced they would cease trading.

JJB Sports, Clinton Cards and Comet have all been forced to call in the administrators during recent months.
