FUNDS are needed for a west Dorset organisation that aims to inspire young people through music.

B Sharp provides music-making opportunities to excite and inspire anyone under the age of 25.

It is based in Lyme Regis and aims to share music skills with the community and help build personal confidence and self-esteem.

The Do It for Dorset campaign is a joint initiative between the Dorset Echo, Bridport and Lyme Regis News and the Dorset Community Foundation – a registered charity dedicated to promoting charitable giving and grant making for charities and community groups.

It aims to encourage donations to such groups across the county.

B Sharp runs a skills cascade training model for young trainees with pathways to music careers.

They work with schools and have an on-going offer of extracurricular projects for youngsters aged between 11 and 18 on Tuesday evenings and holidays.

Project leader Fran Williams, of B Sharp, said: “B Sharp works with young people for young people. It is rooted in the community of Lyme Regis and its surrounding villages.

“It welcomes all young people regardless of their ability, background or circumstances.

“It has a bottom-up approach, which mixes young people together with a common goal to enjoy music.

“It is full of ideas and excitement.”

She added: “B Sharp nurtures interest and talent in music and seizes every possible opportunity to share music making opportunities with our local community.

“It is hoped that all young people living in Lyme Regis and its surrounding areas will know of B Sharp and know that there is somewhere safe and supportive that they can go to create and play music with other young people, learn new skills and make friends.”

Members of B Sharp develop the personal skills they need to progress towards future employment and education.

Project leaders have praised the efforts of volunteers who have helped the youth music group through its busiest year yet.
