Golden Cap volunteer John honoured

AWARD: John Newbould AWARD: John Newbould

NATIONAL Trust volunteer John Newbould has been elected to honorary membership of the National Biodiversity Network for his work at Golden Cap.

The honour recognises his 40 years of commitment to ecological monitoring and recording.

All this work has been carried out in a voluntary capacity and he has been helping the National Trust’s west Dorset team for nine years.

He has also volunteered on the Purbeck Estate in Dorset and at Malham and Upper Warfedale in Yorkshire.

John said that he was really pleased to have received the honour.

He is only the second volunteer ever to receive the accolade.

His favourite site is the Golden Cap Estate in Dorset where he has helped for the last nine years to record wildlife and has helped to write conservation plans to deliver wildlife benefit.

Robert Rhodes, National Trust countryside manager for West Dorset, said: “I am really pleased for John. He does a tremendous amount of work for us and this honour recognises that.”
