25 YEARS AGO:

April, 30 1993:

GREAT SHOT: Sharp-shooter Marc Poynton may be just 12, but he has already won a place in Dorset men's clay pigeon shooting team.

And his coach, John Atkinson, thinks the Beaminster School student has every chance of shooting for England one day.

Mr Atkinson said: "He has a natural ability and superb co-ordination of hands and eyes.

"All I am doing is building up his confidence."

RUN: Family participation was the name of the game in Beaminster's second annual fun run and walk.

West Dorset MP Sir James Spicer, who was one of the 400 participants, and event co-organiser Ken Macksey were overwhelmed by the high number of families who took part in the event.

POLISH: English and French youngsters mucked in together to wash up after a cream tea at Bridport's Church House.

The French teenagers, from Evreux, Normandy, were part of a group of about 70 young people who visited West Dorset at the weekend.

50 YEARS AGO:

April, 26 1968:

ANNIVERSARY: At the Greyhound Hotel on Friday, 129 Rotarians and their wives gathered for a dinner and dance to celebrate the 21st anniversary of the formation of the Rotary Club of Bridport.

Rotarians from a large area including a representative from Rotary International (Rotarian J. West) joined the Bridport Rotarians to help make the evening a memorable occasion.

COMEDY: Unheralded by advance publicity on a big scale, the Symondsbury Players' production of "The tangled web", a comedy by Patricia Gordon, at the village school last week, was of such quality that the company was rewarded with large and enthusiastic audiences.

OLYMPIAN: Proudest man in Charmouth this week is Mr. Jock Smith, of Turnpike Cottage, for he taught Miss Jane Bullen to ride.

Twenty-year-old Jane is the winner of this year's Badminton Horse Trials and a near certainty for the British Olympic squad.

Jane was presented with the Whitbread Trophy and £350 by Her Majesty the Queen on Sunday.
