Tasty treats were on the menu as a community rallied together to raise money for charity.

A bake sale was hosted by Beaminster resident Nicola Pickett to raise money for the Eve Appeal, a gynaecological cancer research charity.

Nicola said: "I decided to contribute by raising awareness in gynaecological cancers.

"My mum developed womb cancer in December 2016 and we were told at the end of 2016 that it was terminal."

Maggie, Nicola's mum, died in December 2017, aged 64.

Nicola said: "It was heartbreaking seeing my lovely mum go through this and so very unfair. She loved life and had so much to live for, yet this cancer had different plans.

"My mum asked me to carry on raising awareness, so this is what I am doing and will continue to do."

The event saw people come and support Nicola and her family, helping to raise £800 on the day.

Many local business in Beaminster donated prizes to go towards the raffle that was held and local cake makers also donated cakes and cupcakes for the sale.

Nicola said: "I would like to say a huge 'thank you' to them, to everyone who came on the day and to all of those who helped me run the day."

The good news did not stop there for Nicola - her daughter Amy, who works for Barclays bank, doubled what the family had raised through the company's Match Fundraising Programme, which saw the fundraising total raised to £1,600.

Nicola said: "I hope this helps the Eve Appeal to carry on doing the amazing job they do."
