POLICE are appealing for witnesses after a head-on collision near the Beaminster Tunnel.

The incident took place at just after 7am on Tuesday March 17 on the A3066 Tunnel Road.

A green Ford Focus, registered to a woman from Beaminster, and a blue Toyota Corolla, registered to a man from Bridport, crashed head-on. A man was arrested on suspicion of driving offences.

The Ford was travelling toward Beaminster and is believed to have been overtaking an unknown vehicle when it struck the Toyota Corolla. The driver and front seat passenger of the Toyota suffered serious but not life threatening injuries.

A spokesman for South Western Ambulance Service said there were three people injured, two elderly patients and a young man, and that all three people had been taken to hospital with one of the elderly patients complaining of neck pain.

The driver of the unknown vehicle stopped at the scene but left before police arrived.

Police Constable Tim Gooding, of Dorset Police Traffic Unit, said: “I am keen to trace the driver or occupants of this unknown vehicle.

“I am also appealing to anyone who witnessed the collision or manner of driving of any of the vehicles prior to the incident to please call Dorset Police.”

A 30-year-old man from Beaminster arrested on suspicion of driving offences has been released on police bail until mid-May pending further enquiries.
