SHE might have been tucked away in a side street off Beaminster Square for the past 22 years but Lynette Fisher’s horizons weren’t always so rural.

For the woman, who has made the Le Vieux Four bakery a destination shop, spent her formative culinary years on the ocean waves catering for celebrities in Cannes, or Bermuda or in the Caribbean.

Now she has used those experiences and the expertise she’s perfected running her popular patisserie to write a very personalised kind of cookery book.

The recipes are often introduced with personal details of when and how she cooked the dish, or historical details on its origins.

The introduction explains her love of simple and fine ingredients, how she got started on her life on the sea and how she coped with cooking in often challenging conditions.

The book has a foreward from Lesley Waters, who says: “This is a book that I know has been a real passion for Lynette and without a doubt it will inspire its readers not only to visit her wonderful patisserie but also to bake the inspirational recipes.

“I will never forget walking down one of the wonky sides streets and suddenly being hit by the most delicious aroma of freshly baked croissants. I followed my nose and there it was, plain to see, and I was suddenly transported to rural France. On stepping through the door it was a feast for the senses. This was the first of many visits.”

Lynette said she had wanted to write the book for ages.

She said: “I don’t know why but I just started to do it and I have loved it. I was cook on charted ships all around the world.

“The book covers that part of my life and then things that have evolved since I have been here.

“They are favourites of my own, things I have made up or picked up along the way. I really enjoyed it, as soon as I got into it all I wanted to do was sit down and do it.”

She has published it herself so it will be out in time for Christmas.

Lynette has already had lots of customers buying it for presents.

She said: “I have had tremendous feedback already.

“It has only been in the shop for three days and people are coming back in and buying more copies for Christmas presents.

“It is has just been an absolute joy and so much fun.”

The book is available from her shop in North Street, The Bridport Book Shop and Cilla and Camilla in Beaminster Square, priced £15.95.

Some of the profits will go to Hounds First Sighthound Rescue and Scruples Whippet Rescue.
