Beaminster group’s bid to teach internet skills
1:00pm Thursday 11th October 2012 in News
Beaminster Seniors group want to use the town council’s internet code when they go to the Skyrm Room on Friday afternoons.
Beaminster Senior Frank Britton wrote to the council saying the group had their own computer with wifi and they would like to be able to show some of the members the use they could get out of a computer.
He said: “In addition to the 45 minutes or so on Friday afternoon in the Skyrm Room, Beaminster Seniors, encouraged by Age UK and West Dorset POPP, are seeking to develop a link between them and the ICT department at Beaminster School.”
Beaminster Councillors said they would be only too happy to pass on the code – if they knew it themselves.
Coun Christopher Turner said: “We should have the facility to offer wifi access. I think it is ridiculous that we are prevented from doing so.”
Coun Janet Page said they should lobby to try and get the password from West Dorset District Council.
Coun Rebecca Knox suggested that the Beaminster Social Club had its own wireless code which would reach the Skyrm Room.
This could be used instead, she suggested.
