Lyme Regis lifeboat crew saved our lives – twice

LUCKY PAIR: Dajo catamaran crew Nigel Cresswell and Tina Cook were saved twice in two days
SAILORS have praised rescuers who saved them twice in as many days off the west Dorset coast.
Lyme Regis lifeboat helped the Dajo catamaran into West Bay in bad weather before the vessel was helped again by the Weymouth lifeboat the next day.
Dajo skipper Nigel Cresswell said: “The coastguards have been fantastic.
“They were waiting for us at the pontoon.
“The guys on the lifeboats were also very helpful.
“They are all very professional teams.
“The coastguards on the radio were fantastic and obviously just keen to help.”
The Dajo was on its way from Dartmouth towards Kent when it ran in trouble last Tuesday night and had to be helped to West Bay.
Mr Cresswell, 54, who has been sailing for 24 years, was with crew mate Tina Cook when they were helped into harbour.
It was Lyme Regis lifeboat’s 40th emergency shout of the year.
On Wednesday, they made for Poole but as they were coming out of West Bay a rope got wrapped around one propeller, stopping one of the vessel’s two engines.
They continued their journey on the second engine, but then one of the rudders went, so they decided to call Portland Coastguard again.
He said: “I thought they are too many things wrong now.”
Weymouth lifeboat towed them to harbour where they were met by Wyke Regis coastguard.
