New candidate for Vale

LONG-STANDING county councillor Geoffrey Brierley has announced that he will not be seeking re-election next year.

Coun Brierley has been the Marshwood Vale member for 11 years and positions at County Hall have included cabinet member for transport and vice chairman of Dorset Police Authority.

Marshwood Vale Conservatives have selected Daryl Turner as their county council candidate for the ward following a three-stage selection process.

He is currently a town councillor in Lyme Regis and the town’s representative at West Dorset District Council.

County elections will be held on May 2 next year.

Coun Turner said: “I promise to work hard during the next six months leading up to the election to understand the issues within the Marshwood Vale, ensuring a smooth transition.

“I believe it’s important to look at the area as a whole and not treat it as Lyme Regis and the Marshwood Vale.

“I need to understand and have detailed knowledge of individual communities issues and would be happy to take part in discussions and events in the Vale area.

“I would welcome invitations to local events and look forward to meeting you.”

Daryl can be contacted by email on daryl4county@btinternet.com or follow him on Twitter @Dwhane.
