Burton Bradstock Parish council bidding for village plot

BURTON Bradstock Parish Council is set to bid for a seven acre plot of land in the village.

It has agreed to seek borrowing approval from the government to allow it to go for the Corncrake site at an auction on October 11.

The guide price is £45,000 but the council expects to need to raise upwards of £60,000 to give it a chance of success.

It can call on a proportion of its reserves but will need to find more money.

The land is alongside the River Bride and next to the recreation field. But the council says that buying the land gives an opportunity to safeguard an important asset and retain options for future community initiatives.

Members felt the land is well-used for informal recreation and it also provides the undeveloped, rural setting for the Village Conservation Area, including the church.

Councillors also said that it offers a range of options for extending recreation provision in the future.

The land would also enable the parish council to secure a car-free pedestrian route from the school to the recreation field.

It would give the parish council options for enhancing the riverside walk, wildlife corridors and tree planting.

Anyone who wants to help the council raise funds is urged to get in touch as soon as possible.
