Road blocked by landslip

A LANDSLIP fell onto a road near Broadwindsor as torrential rain and severe weather hit west Dorset.

A carriageway of the B3162 was blocked by the landslide one mile south of Broadwindsor early on Monday, September 24.

Police said that the incident was reported to them at 6.15am and that the council was handling the clean-up operation.

No-one was injured in the landslide.

It came as storms battered the county at the start of the week.

Eggardon kite festival, at Powerstock near Bridport , was cancelled on Sunday because of the weather.

The Met Office issued a weather warning for the South West, including Dorset, on Sunday night in anticipation of the worst weather.

Environment Agency flood warnings were in place for the River Char at Charmouth and the River Axe on Sunday and Monday.

Nick Moore, of the Environment Agency, said: “We strongly urge people to sign up to flood warnings, keep a close eye on local weather forecasts, and be prepared for the possibility of flooding.”

He added: “We also ask that people stay safe, by staying away from swollen rivers and not attempting to drive through flood water.”
