First class blooms at the flower show

CHAMP: Grace Lawson, 10, with her winning cake
THIS year’s Bothenhampton flower show was very successful despite entries being slightly down, particularly in the vegetable section.
The consensus among gardeners was it had been a difficult year, with the wettest April-to-June period on record.
One of the organisers Renee Gibbs said the floral exhibits had some first class blooms and pot plants and the cakes and pastries exhibits were up on last year with some very mouth-watering entries.
The children’s entries were down but Grace Lawson more than made up for that by producing a stunning decorated cake, she added.
