STAFF at Palmers Brewery in Bridport raised a glass after their Tally Ho! brew won the coveted title of Beer of the Festival at the Stratford Upon Avon beer and cider festival.

Festival-goers and members of the Shakespeare CAMRA branch voted for their favourite beer in their sixth summer festival. Tally Ho! was one of the first ales to run out, and polled over 50 per cent of all the votes.

Festival organiser Julian Stobinski, 55, of Norton in Worcestershire, brought his CAMRA comrades to the Bridport brewery to present the certificate to Head Brewer Darren Batten.

He said: “Tally Ho! won by an overwhelming landslide. We had over 60 different beers at the festival and the theme was local and coastal beers. Normally there are only a couple of votes in it so this proves how popular Tally Ho! is. I voted for it, as it is so rich and dark, one of the best beers I have tasted.”

Darren took the CAMRA crew on a three-hour tour of Palmers Brewery. He said: “Everyone at Palmers Brewery is delighted that beer lovers in Shakespeare Country are so fond of Tally Ho! a nutty, full-strength dark beer.”
