Bridport: Tiana is our carnival princess
11:00am Wednesday 27th June 2012 in News By James Tourgout
TALENTED Tiana Foot sang her way to the Bridport Carnival Princess title.
The Colfox pupil claimed the crown in a Bridport’s Got Talent-style contest with a performance of Ellie Goulding’s Guns and Horses at the News sponsored event.
Ellie Rodgers, Georgie Boyer and Kirsty Ellison were picked as her attendants and Daniella Scadding was crowned Junior Carnival Princess.
Tiana, 12, who lives in Bridport, said: “I’m really happy. I wasn’t expecting to win.
“I am looking forward to the carnival and hope to make Bridport proud. It’s amazing.”
Independent judges Arthur Woodgate, who is chairman of the Bridport Young Persons' Action Trust charity, Charlotte Storey, from the Inspire project, and James Tourgout from the Bridport News said it was difficult to separate the 12 contestants.
Mr Woodgate said: “There was a considerable amount of talent and enthusiasm on display.
“Choosing the winners and the losers was probably more difficult than it has ever been before.
“I think we have an outstanding group of young people to represent the carnival this year.
Charlotte added: “The standard was incredibly high. Everyone acquitted themselves really well.”
There was also a presentation to outgoing Princess Jade Coombs, who spoke words of encouragement to the entrants at the start, and tributes for her charity work over the past year.
The entrants were Jordan Hayter, Molly Gay, Hannah Goldstone, Ellie Rodgers, Keitija Dubra, Georgie Boyer, Tiana Foot, Kirsty Ellison, Jessica Hardie, Summer Studley, Daniella Scadding and Cora Knollman. They performed a range of acts, including singing, dancing, poetry readings, gymnastics and a flute solo.
Judges picked three attendants instead of two because they couldn’t separate the finalists.
Carnival chairman Shaun Fox thanked everyone for coming and that he hoped to see a good turn out at the carnival and events in the big build-up.
Charmouth Primary School pupil Daniella, 11, performed a song and ballet routine.
Ellie, 13, who was also an attendant last year, sang Hallelujah with her own lyrics in the final verse.
Georgie, 16, who has just left Beaminster School and is going to Yeovil College, played a recital on the flute and Kirsty, 12, sang Mr President.
Ellie said: “I’m looking forward to being an attendant again.
“We thought only one of us would be an attendant so it’s great that we both are.”
Her friend Kirsty added: “I’m so happy.”
Georgie said it was amazing to be chosen as an attendant.
Junior Princess Daniella added: “I am really looking forward to the carnival.”
Outgoing princess Jade praised the winners as beautiful and talented but also said that she had a fantastic year and thanked everyone for their support.
