No, he’s not telling porky-pies, Bridport butcher ‘Arthur’ Case really is going to jump out of an aeroplane.

Arthur – real name Phil – was so impressed by the care his partner’s late mother, Hilary Westbrook, received at the Joseph Weld Hospice that he has signed up to do a fundraising parachute jump.

And customers at Framptons butcher’s shop in the Market House under the Town Hall, where Phil, 34 has worked for 20 years have already been more than generous, by popping more than £750 into a collecting box on the counter.

Phil is known as Arthur because when he first arrived at the shop as a teenager on work experience he was constantly being confused with the boss, Phil Frampton, so he adopted his second name, and it stuck.

The tandem jump will take place at Dunkeswell airfield in east Devon on June 17.

And on hand to watch will be Phil’s partner Rosie and their two young sons George, six and three-year-old Harry.

Phil said: “When Hilary was in the hospice they were wonderful, really good.

“They even let us bring the dog in to see her.”

“So I asked if there was anything I could do to raise money and they said that sometimes people did parachute jumps.

“I love planes and flying, but I am terrified of heights, but I suppose it beats sitting in a bath of cold baked beans or something!”

The collecting box will remain on Framptons’ counter and anyone wanting to sponsor the jump is welcome to call in or contact Phil at the shop on 01308 422995.
