Lyme Regis: Hub campaigners get invitations to Royal Garden Party

Some very important post has arrived on the doormats of two of the leading campaigners in a successful Lyme Regis bid for a share of the Jubilee People’s Millions.

Fran Williams and Ayvin Rogers, part of the team who led the way in achieving a £60,000 grant for The Hub youth centre, have been invited to a Royal Garden Party at Buckingham Palace next month as a thank you for their hard work.

The Hub building in Church Street is owned by the Lyme Regis Development Trust for the community and Chief Executive Marcus Dixon paid tribute to Fran and Ayvin for their tireless efforts on behalf of the centre.

The People’s Millions grant was awarded last summer after a public vote swung it for the Hub campaign, in a head-to-head contest against the Portland Gig Rowing Club.

Mr Dixon said that both Fran and Ayvin were central to the success of the campaign and had put a huge amount of time and effort in to it.

“It is appropriate and very flattering that they should be invited to the Palace to represent everyone who was part of it,” he added.

Ayvin Rogers, Chair of the B Sharp youth music group, volunteered his time to complete the application to the Jubilee Peoples Millions in partnership with Mr Dixon.

Fran Williams was employed by the Trust as project development worker for The Hub, working overtime as a volunteer to lead the ambitious campaign which went on to win the £60,000. “I am very honoured to receive a most unexpected invitation to Buckingham Palace, representing the Hub team that included lots of young people, LRDT, The Woodroffe School, Insparation youth cafe, all the workers, volunteers, fundraisers, friends and well wishers who have dedicated time and energy to this worthy cause,” said Mrs Williams.

The Hub is holding an open day on Saturday, April 21 to show off the progress to date.
