NEWLYWEDS Edd Southerden and Gemma Scriven took a trip to the cinema they will never forget.

The couple were married at the Regent Cinema in Lyme Regis on Saturday in a humanist ceremony, followed by a reception at the Town Mill.

Edd, 28, who works in advertising, and teacher Gemma, 29, live in London but say Lyme is one of their favourite places and they visit regularly for holidays.

Gemma, who formerly worked for short film production companies and used to be an actress, loves art house cinema and cinema architecture.

She fell in love with the Regent, a 1930s cinema, during one visit to the town years ago and has since kept a postcard of it on her wall.

As the cinema is not a licensed wedding venue, Gemma and Edd were legally married the week before at a register office in Hackney, but considered their blessing at the Regent as their ‘proper wedding’.

Gemma, who grew up in Gillingham, was given away by her dad and was attended by two bridesmaids as she walked down the aisle of the cinema where Edd was waiting with his brother as best man.

The bride’s uncle Denis Chilcott said: “After the service and photo shoot in the Langmoor Gardens the couple walked along the sea front in their wedding outfits meeting two members of the lifeboat team – as it was Lifeboat Week – plus chatting to many well wishers on the way to the Cobb.”

The newlyweds spent the night at the Alexandra Hotel.
