Lyme Regis: Artists invited to ArtsFest 2010

PLANS are already under way for Lyme Regis ArtsFest in September and artists are invited to get involved now.

The festival’s agm at the Guildhall in Lyme was attended by more than 40 artists and supporters, who supported the plans already made for the 2010 event.

Director Sally Holman and artists Christine Allison and Karol Kulik have used previous experiences and some new elements to come up with the proposals for this year.

The meeting voted to ask participants to pay an increased rate to take part, to ensure the financial viability of the festival.

All the artists at the meeting have agreed to support the open studios, art trail, group exhibitions and workshops that make up ArtsFest.

Karol and Christine gave a review of the 2009 festival and emphasised the benefit to artists, craftspeople, businesses, and visitors, as well as local residents.

Karol, re-elected as artistic director, said: “It was gratifying to see new artists at the meeting; many had great ideas for new components which could become the highlights of the 2010 event.

“We’re always on the look-out for new ways of engaging with the community and public, so that ArtsFest continues to be dynamic and interactive.”

Director Sally talked about her pride in ArtsFest and delight that such a strong artists’ group is now the foundation for an ongoing festival in Lyme.

Business administrator Wendy Davies thanked retiring treasurer Adrian Pearson and also Peter Wiles, who is taking his place for 2010.

Artists Hilary Buckley, Trish Hayman and Edna Dorrington will take on the job of organising the art trail.
