Charmouth traders have handed out more than £500 to village organisations from the proceeds of the successful Christmas fayre.
The Traders’ Association raised almost £900 at its second festive street fayre and invited local groups to put forward bids for projects they need help funding.
Association member Ian Simpson said: “Having deducted the cost of running the event we were left with an excess of £500, which we are able to invest back into our community.
“We have donated £75 to each of the groups which we hope will help them in their respective endeavours.
“The small surplus remaining will be kept in the Charmouth Traders’ Association account and used to support other village causes later in the year.”
Charmouth Cubs will be using their donation to buy new sports equipment. Cub leader Toni Green said: “The sports equipment we have is very aged and worn, so it will buy cricket bats, tennis racquets and footballs.”
It is also a welcome donation because all the spare funds are currently going towards refurbishing the Cub Hall at Barrs Lane Playing Field.
Charmouth Scouts also use the hall and equipment so they too will benefit.
St Andrews Community Hall is also in need of refurbishment and remedial repairs to the club room, and the donation from the traders will go towards the work.
Donations have also gone to Shoreline Magazine, which is run by and for residents of Charmouth, and Charmouth Primary School’s Kaseki Taiko Drum Troupe.
The Bopper Bus, which runs a weekly trip to Bridport Leisure Centre on Friday evenings for children in Charmouth and surrounding villages, will also receive a share.
Charmouth Brownies and Guides will use their donation for a trip to mark their centenary.
