A LUXURY fish soup created in memory of culinary legend Keith Floyd has helped raise vital funds for a children's hospice.

Steve Attrill and his award wining team at the Hive Beach Café in Burton Bradstock cooked up a special lobster bisque to celebrate the master chef’s links with Bridport.

It went on the menu, along with a free Floyd-style bow tie, at the restaurant during Dorset Food Week with £5 from every order going to Julia's House – Dorset’s only hospice dedicated to children with life-limiting conditions.

Last week Mr Attrill presented a cheque for £530 to Pauline Collard, chairman of the Bridport Friends Group for Julia’s House.

He said: “We felt we really wanted to do something for the charity. Our customers were very supportive so I pledged to double whatever we made.”

Mrs Collard said: “It was a wonderful opportunity to meet the crew at The Hive and the Hospice is appreciative of the funds raised.

“At present there are around 200 children across Dorset who are suffering from life-limiting illnesses. Julia’s House is dedicated to providing love, support and help to both them and their families, ensuring they make the most of the time they have together.”

The Hive is continuing to support Julia’s House by giving part of the proceeds from the sale of exclusive 2010 calendars and stocking fillers. Available at the cafe, the calendars cost £5.95 and show pictures of the beach, cliffs and surrounding area.

l Keith Floyd had links with Bridport spanning more than three decades and spent his last days in the town at partner Celia Martin’s home in South Street.
