BUDDING young engineers from the Sir John Colfox Young Engineers Club want to do their bit for global warming and are gearing up for the Greenpower Challenge but they need help.

The youngsters belong to the after school Young Engineers Club run by the design and technology department.

Members have just been to the Rockingham Youth Engineering Festival and were inspired to compete in next year's Greenpower Challenge.

Greenpower is a company dedicated to promoting engineering and technology as careers with a project to design, build and race an electric racing car.

Each entrant is issued with a standard 24 volt electric wheelchair motor and four 12 volt car batteries.

A series of six hour endurance races at motor circuits around the county build up to the national final; held each October at Goodwood. Each team must comprise of six drivers and six pit-crew.

The Bridport team is looking for sponsorship from local companies and organisations. They need £375 to register for the competition, plus up to £400 to pay for the materials and manufacture.

They also need a supply of clothing, crash helmets, and transportation to events. Sponsor's names will be advertised on the clothing and the car. Anyone who can should contact the school on 01308 422291, and ask for Mr Rose or Miss Clayton-Spencer.
