A Land Rover on fire and a fallen tree caused queues on the A37 between Dorchester and Yeovil this afternoon.

A spokesman for the fire service said one crew from Yeovil attended the scene after a Land Rover Discovery pulled over into a laybay after an engine fault.

"It has been completely destroyed by fire", they added.

"One crew from Yeovil attended. Two breathing apparatus and compressed air foam were used to extinguish the flames."

The A37 was closed in both directions to allow emergency services to work safely at the scene.

It was closed from Drift Road near Maiden Newton to George Albert Hotel, Frome St Quintin.

Traffic on Long Ash Lane was also reported to be affected in both directions due to a fallen tree. Traffic was queueing from Ash service station at Frampton, to the turning for Maiden Newton.

All roads have now been reopened but congestion remains in the area.
