IN a bid to Turn Lyme Green, low carbon sailor Mukti Mitchell will de dropping into the resort on his zero emission boat to encourage a greener way of life.
Environmental group Turn Lyme Green aims to make the town a plastic-bag free zone and brand Lyme Regis as a leading environmentally concerned coastal town.
As part of this campaign, Mukti, an environmentalist and carpenter from Clovelly, Devon, will be sailing his self-made 15ft microyacht, Chance, into Lyme harbour on Tuesday to moor for just one day.
Lyme Regis is one of the last stops on Mukti's Low Carbon Lifestyle Tour, launched on Easter Sunday this year. Over the six month tour, Mukti has sailed into 40 UK ports to talk about the small changes we can all make to halt global warming.
On Tuesday he will also visit schools in Lyme and Seaton and talk to shopkeepers, before accompanying town mayor, Sally Holman, to the harbour at 4.30pm to see his boat.
At 7.30pm, Turn Lyme Green hosts Mukti's free talk, Living a Low Carbon Lifestyle, at the Marine Theatre, where he will show images of his journey around the coast of Britain.
"A lot of the best things in life are low-carbon by nature - exercise and socialising, for example - and the really good bit is that low-carbon activities save money and make you feel good," said Mukti.
Mukti Mitchell's book The Guide to Low Carbon Living (downloadable from www.lowcarbonlifestyle.org) gives ten simple steps to follow, and explains how much carbon dioxide each will save.
