A village was full of the sound of engines as part of an annual charity run.

The fourth annual Wootton Fitzpaine tractor run once again took place around the country lanes of the village, starting and ending at the social club.

The route, which is around 20 miles, saw 23 tractors, both vintage and modern, take part this year, with the sunny weather proving kind to organisers.

Drivers were charged £10 to take part, which alongside a raffle and sales from refreshments, went towards fundraising for the social club.

This year also saw fundraising for the village hall take place.

Heather Kitcher, organiser of the tractor run, said: “This year, the village hall joined us, doing bacon rolls for the drivers.

“We hoped that by tempting with the smell of bacon that we could raise a few pounds.

“Any profits made by the village hall went to them. The entry fee and raffle went to the social club, which is run by volunteers.

“This year we were raising more money in order to get some more heaters for the club.”

After the run, participants were invited into the club to grab some refreshments and have a catch-up on how they found the run.

Since the tractor run was first organised, more than £1,500 has been raised for the social club.

Speaking on the long-term future of the event, Heather said that she was worried as tractor runs are becoming more popular and a more frequent event in many areas.

Despite this year being well very well supported, it coincided with two other similar events taking place, and the number of tractors was down from the 30 that took part in the event last year.

Heather said: “I’m worried that people will get fed up of doing tractor runs.

“They are really good, Wootton is a farming community and a lot of people nearby have tractors and vintage tractors.

“My family are from a farming background, and most of the locals that use the club are from a farming origin.

“It’s nice to have an event that gets people together.

“A lot of hard work goes into trying to sort it out, but it’s good to see everyone.”

The club is located next to the village hall, and is for residents in Wootton Fitzpaine, Charmouth and the surrounding area.
