A large outdoor theatre performance due to held at the park and ride site in Weymouth has been cancelled due to the weather.

The curtain was due to goe up on an explosive theatre production tonight - the first performance of Furious Folly at the Mount Pleasant Park and Ride site in Weymouth, presented as part of the Inside Out Dorset arts showcase.

Due to the forecast coinditions this evening, tonight show has been cancelled.

It will go ahead tomorrow, however.

A spokesman for the organisers said: "Due to the adverse weather conditions in Weymouth, and on the advice of our on-site health and safety team, we have taken the difficult decision to cancel tonight’s performance of Furious Folly (Thursday 20th September).

"The Met Office storm warning is for today only, with a more positive outlook for tomorrow so we fully expect tomorrow’s performance to run as planned.

"All tickets purchased for tonight’s performance will be valid for tomorrow night (Friday 21st Sept), or eligible for refunds for those unable to attend. Please email info@activateperformingarts.org.uk or call 01305 260954 to exchange your tickets for Friday or request a refund.

"We would like to sincerely apologise for any inconvenience and disappointment caused, and reassure our ticket-holders that we have made this decision with the health and safety of our audiences and team in mind. This is the first time in the history of the festival that an event has been unable to go ahead, and both we and the artists are hugely disappointed to make this decision."

The spokesman said while tomorrow's performance is due to go ahead as planned, no addiitonal performances will be added. Any ticket-buyers for tonight will be either refunded or offered tickets for Friday.

Furious Folly is a large-scale outdoor production for up to 2,000 people, taking place in wide open landscape resembling a battlefield. As night falls, in the no-man’s-land between two enemy lines, the segregated, disorientated audience find themselves immersed in a world of sound, light, pyrotechnics and performance.

Mark Anderson leads a team of artists who draw on the anti-war spirit of the early 20th century Dadaist movement to rail against the madness of the battlefield and challenge the inhumanity and senselessness of conflicts past and present.

Furious Folly was co-commissioned by the town of Poperinge in Flanders to mark the anniversary of the first use of poison gas and by 14-18 NOW, the UK’s World War One centenary programme.

The shows in Weymouth are the only UK performances this year.

Event organisers Activate have just released an additional 200 tickets available to buy on the site.

Shows start at 7.30pm but you should arrive in plenty of time.
