Ironman Weymouth is returning today - with thousands of athletes expected to descend on the area to challenge themselves on a tough course.

There's lots to celebrate about Ironman - but people are also being advised to beware of road closures and check updates ahead of setting out.

  • Here's all the pictures from last year's event, which was declared a 'phenomenal success'
  • All details on the road closures and advice can be found here. Road closures apply to all vehicles, apart from emergency services and those involved in the race. Carers can apply for passes in advance.
  • And here's a heartwarming story about one of this year's competitors. Peter McCleave has been told he has just seven years to live - and has launched an inspiring campaign to recruit 10,000 new donors to the stem cell register.

Anyone who has issues on the roads today can contact race organisers by calling 03330 11 66 00 or emailing weymouth@ironmanroadaccess.com
