An arts venue in need of a new roof has come up with an unusual way of seeking support.

Bridport Arts Centre is calling on the generosity of the public for help in raising £5,000 to replace the slate above its Allsop Gallery.

The roof overhangs the patio space at the back of the venue, meaning it is important to get it replaced soon.

The slates have been on the roof since the building opened as an arts centre in the 70s.

You can support the venue by sponsoring a slate.

Half a slate can be sponsored for £50, which includes a certificate of thanks and an invite to future exhibitions and gallery launches, while a full slate can be sponsored for £100, which will see your name on a wall plaque hung in the Allsop Gallery, half price tickets on events and talks in the Allsop Gallery, a certificate of thanks and invites to future exhibitions and gallery launches.

Director Curtis Fulcher said: “A slate would make an ideal present for a birthday or any meaningful anniversary, or as a memorial for a loved one who spent happy times at the venue.

“We rely on your generous support to enable us to deliver an imaginative and pioneering artistic programme for Bridport and beyond.

“Every penny raised through slate sponsorship will help us achieve our vision to be the best arts centre.

“Thank you.”
