Masterpieces by two artists are set to go under the hammer in the capital.

Suzy Moger, of Swyre, and Gerry Dudgeon, of Beaminster, have been selected to be a part of Sea-Fever, the latest auction by The Auction Collective.

The exhibition and auction is a tribute to John Masefield's poem of the same name, with 27 artists and 55 different pieces of art on display, which are thought could collect between £60 and £3,000.

The Auction Collective, which was established in 2017, aims to open the lower-value end of the art market to both artists and art buyers.

Pieces are selected directly from the artists and based on their quality, rather than price or market reputation, can provide a platform.

Sea-Fever brings together paintings, prints, photographs, collages and even a sculpture from a variety of UK-based artists at different stages in their career.

Art school graduates, emerging, unrepresented and established artists have all been hand-picked to show the cross-generational and long-standing influence that the ocean has on today's creative minds.

Tom Best, who established The Auction Collective, said: "Suzy and Gerry have each had two works selected (lot 19, 48, three and 38).

"We wanted to show how the sea was continuing to inspire the creative minds of today just as much as it inspired John Masefield in 1902.

"On top of this, we wanted to show that there is incredible artistic talent all over the UK and SO Sea-Fever has artists from Dorset, Swansea, Cornwall, Northumberland, Edinburgh and more.

"We thought that Suzy Moger's and Gerry Dudgeon's work were incredible and gave such interesting interpretations of our surrounding water.

"We are thrilled to have them in the auction."

Both Suzy and Gerry's pieces will be exhibited at Hoxton Arches in the heart of East London, where members of the public are able to gain entrance to the auction and exhibition for free.

Gerry said: "I'm delighted that Tom Best invited me to be one of the participating artists in his 'Sea-Fever' pop-up auction.

"I'm looking forward to this auction because Tom has a dynamic and refreshingly unconventional approach to selling art, having acquired considerable skill and experience at Christie's, and unlike most auctions, there is no buyer's commission which makes the work more affordable and accessible."

Suzy will be also opening her studios as part of the Bridport and West Dorset Open Studios from Wednesday, September 12 until Sunday, September 16, with admission to the studio from 11am until 4pm.

  • Suzy and Gerry's pieces will be auctioned at 7pm on Thursday, September 13 at Hoxton Arches, exhibited from Tuesday, September 11 until Thursday, September 13.
