Staff from a care home broke their fundraising record at an annual show.

The team from Fairfield House in Lyme Regis raised a record amount of money as part of their yearly fundraising for charity at the Melplash Show.

This year, the chosen charity was the Lyme Regis RNLI, whose volunteer lifeboat crews provide a 24-hour rescue service in the UK and Ireland, as well as training and placing seasonal lifeguards on Lyme Regis beach.

April Robinson, receptionist at Fairfield House, said: "I am delighted with the money raised for the RNLI Lyme Regis Lifeboats, and am very proud to announce that the total proceeds raised £1,150 for this very worthy cause. A massive thank you to all the businesses for donating gifts for the tombola."

Last year the care home raised money for the Weldmar Hospicecare Trust, raising £687.50 for the hospice, which at the time, marked their best fundraising effort to date.

That figure was nearly doubled this year, thanks to the generosity of those that visited the Melplash Agricultural Society's annual show.

Carol Ashby, home manager of Fairfield House, said: "The generosity of the local community in supporting the RNLI this year has been amazing. Our staff too gave their time freely and with such enthusiasm which in turn created our most successful fundraising event so far."

This year the home had an adults and children's tombola, as well as a star raffle that they raised money from.

The star raffle was drawn in the main arena at 5pm by Lyme Regis RNLI Lyme Regis volunteer, Seb Cope.

The money raised from the team at Fairfield House will go towards training the volunteers of the Lyme Regis RNLI.

Lifeboat operations manager, Nick Marks, who was present with Seb to accept the cheque on behalf of the branch, said: "We were absolutely delighted to receive this very generous donation from Fairfield House. We will ensure that the donation is spent wisely, contributing towards the training of our life-saving volunteer crews and the vital equipment they use."
