A town is set to get in the party fever this weekend ahead of an annual event.

Charmouth's Party in the Park will be taking place once more at Barr's Lane playing fields, with various entertainment arranged for the day.

The event, which last year raised £2,687 for 14 different groups, is back for another year.

The origins of 'Party in the Park' (PitP) started many years ago with the Charmouth Fair, organised by Peter Noel.

Despite Charmouth Fayre no longer running, Charmouth's PitP is now organised by the Charmouth Events committee and has gone strength to strength.

The committee holds two PitP events over the year, on the Sunday of the Spring and August bank holidays.

The spring party raised more than £2,200, and organisers are hoping that given good weather, will be able to do the same.

Phil Tritton, chairman of Charmouth Events, said: "The weather forecast looks good so come along to our family event and enjoy it.

"There is something for everyone and a children's playground as well. We have a great line-up of bands and we are expecting a good crowd."

Providing musical entertainment for the evening will be Grace Gillian, former vocalist with PitP alumni Papa le Gal, who will be performing with guitarist Jake Miller to open the evening.

The main event for the night is Jess Upton and the Guilty Pleasures, who will be entertaining with a selection of soul, disco and pop classics to get the crowd on their feet.

Those attending will also be able to feast upon the culinary delights on offer, with hot dugs, burgers, lamb curry and vegetarian options available.

The evening will then end in spectacular fashion, with a Grand Firework display.

Following the May event, the committee has also made some changes.

Phil said: "After the May Party in the Park, the committee invited comments from attendees and as a result we are introducing the following at the August event: Six more toilets, recycling bins, compostable plastic glasses, more at the children's stall and a medical tent."

The Charmouth Events Committee has several other events planned for the town, including monthly film nights starting in September, a concert by the Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra in October, and many more.

The party will take place from 5pm until 10pm on Sunday, August 26.
