It's time to get in your car, as the county's biggest car boot returns.

Symondsbury Fete is set to return for its 33rd year on Sunday, August 26 at the sports club.

The event, labelled as the 'Dorset's biggest fete and car boot', will see the car boot start in the morning, and then a fete take place alongside in the afternoon.

Richard Balson, organiser of Symondsbury Fete, said: "I've been doing the event since the beginning, a lifetime sentence, but its good fun.

"I've had plenty of helpers, and we've been lucky with a really good band of people to help.

"It can take 10 to 12 people alone to help with the car parking."

Activities will include traditional fete games such as Dorset Knob throwing, rides, charity stalls, and more.

The Port Bredy Allstar Majorettes will be providing entertainment during the fete, with a display.

A charity sack race with prizes of up to £100 will take place on the day, with winners able to donate the winnings to a charity of their choice.

There will also be a licensed bar and refreshments available at the event.

Money made at the event will go towards the Symene Sports Club and cricket club, as well as the Mark Broad Memorial Fund.

The fund was set up in 2004, after the young coach died.

After his death, the fund was awarded more than £30,000 to well deserving causes.

Colin Willcox, trustee of the Mark Broad Memorial Fund, said: "The Mark Broad Memorial Fund is in memory of Mark, a young coach who died at the age of 39.

"After his death, we set up a fund for youngsters, which backs athletes in athletics, golf, football, equestrian sports and more."

The charity recently had representatives at the World Triathlon Championships in South Africa, and has previously supported Lyme Regis golfer, Sophie Keech, before she turned professional.

Colin said: "We have raised money ourselves as a charity.

"Our annual fundraiser is our golf day, and we receive various donations throughout the year.

"The main event for us as a charity is Symondsbury Fete."

The car boot will take place from 7.30am until 5pm, and the fete will take place in the afternoon from midday until 5pm.

Entry is £2 for adults, with child entry and parking free.
