It's time for your voice to be heard on what sites are suitable for development in West Dorset.

The first part of the West Dorset, Weymouth and Portland Local Plan review took place in early 2017 on the issues and options available. As a result, a ‘Preferred Options’ document has been produced.

You can now share your comments through a consultation form online, by email or post.

Part of the plan relates to Bridport and includes future town expansion, identifying the Rope Walks and coach station car parks as preferred locations.

It also covers land at Vearse Farm and identifies the site's capacity to deliver 930 homes, as opposed to the 760 first envisaged.

The plan was first adopted in October 2015, when an inspector’s report, following the public examination of the plan, required an early review to be undertaken. This was in order to identify additional land capable of fulfilling the housing needs requirement to the end of its plan period and for the following five years – up to 2036.

Now you have the opportunity to give West Dorset District Council your views on the preferred options during an eight week consultation until October.

A number of roadshow events have been arranged so you can talk to WDDC planning officers about any questions or concerns you may have.

They will take place at:

Beaminster Town Hall on Friday, September 7, between 10am and 7pm

Woodmead Hall, Lyme Regis, on Monday, September 10, between 10am and 7pm

Bridport Leisure Centre on Thursday, September 13, between 10am and 7pm

Cllr Ian Gardner, WDDC portfolio holder for planning, said: “Once approved, this local plan will form the blueprint for development in our area up to 2036.

“We would like to hear from as many people as possible to help us ensure that we identify and allocate the most suitable sites for development.”
