You could be forgiven for thinking you had been transported to an episode of 'The Real Marigold Hotel' last Sunday afternoon as the colourful and skilful group of Bhangra dancers performed on Fisherman's Green.

Their programme was interspersed with a display from a street dancing troupe as well as displays of pole dancing by some extremely agile and flexible young women.

This was all part of West Bay Day.

The car parks were full by mid morning and with scorching sunshine many families chose the beach as their first port of call.

Live bands performed on the Mound all afternoon with the music getting under way with Nina Garcia.

The day concluded with a spectacular firework display at 10.00pm.

I think the community ought to be extremely grateful to our hardworking harbour master, James Radcliffe, who in addition to his many other duties has accepted the chairmanship of the West Bay Days organising committee - well done.

Next Sunday, the bay will be busy again with two quite different events.

At 10.30am, the Bridport Runners will set off on this year's Jurassic Coast Run that includes a a 10K and half marathon. Registration begins at 8.45am and the start is on the Esplanade. You may enter on online at fullonsports.com.

For more information, please contact Brian Shelley on 01308 459942 or visit bridport -runners.co.uk. It promises to be an exciting event to watch.

Then at 4pm on Harbour Green (or in church if wet) I will host a service of favourite hymns.

This year's 'Phil's favourites at 4' will be accompanied by the musicians from Weymouth Salvation Army Band.

The Salvation Army has always held a special place in my heart because in 1940 they were the first to greet my uncle Fred when he was repatriated on his return from Dunkirk.

Please bring a deck chair or a blanket to sit on.

I am looking forward to welcoming you all to this special service.
