A theatre has made sure access is easy for all through the introduction of new facilities.

At the celebration of its quarterly programme for its Marine Friends, a membership group for supporters of the arts venues, the Marine Theatre opened up the theatre's new disabled toilet.

Trustees and volunteers were invited to the event, which saw audience member Katie Duncan open the venue's new disabled toilet.

Previously, wheelchair users would have to leave the building to use the facilities.

The toilet was paid for through fundraising by volunteers and a grant from the Gannett Foundation.

Theatre manager, Sophie Moseley, said: "We are working hard to put the Marine at the heart of the community.

"The opening of these facilities is aligned with that, it's vital that everyone can enjoy the theatre as a cultural asset to the town, thank you to all who raised money."

Councillors Jeff Scowen, Stan Williams, and Steve Miller joined Theatre Friends for a celebratory drink in the sunshine.

Cllr Scowen said: "It's great to be here at the Marine and see these new facilities open.

"It's positive to see the hard work of fundraisers, making all the events here accessible to as many local people as possible."

The quarterly programme for the summer includes events with DJ Yoda, Talon and Dr Feelgood all featured.
