More than 60 people turned out to help a school club with a beach clean.

Members of the St Michael's Primary School community turned out to help clean the beaches in Lyme Regis.

The clean was organised by the school's Eco Club, which is run by teaching assistant Ben Taylor and deputy headteacher James Rich.

Pupils within the club hoped that the clean would help them on their way in their mission to make everyone more environmentally aware.

The fantastic turnout was the club's largest to date, with a total of ten full bags of rubbish collected, consisting mostly of plastic.

Pupil Jasmine, who helped with the beach clean, said: "We wanted to encourage all our friends from school to come along and make our beaches cleaner to play on."

Fellow pupil, Phoebe, added: "We all come to the beach a lot so we want to keep them clean and make a difference to the environment."

The beach clean has been welcomed by the Dorset Waste Partnership, who helps support beach cleans.

Mike Moon, head of service (operations) for the Dorset Waste Partnership (DWP), said: "We are delighted that St Michael's Primary School have held a beach clean, litter is a growing problem nationally and it's important we all work together to try and combat the problem."

In the future, the St Michael's Eco club would like to organise more beach cleans, and are on the look out for any businesses that would like to support the club.
