A cheque donation proved to be a hoot for residents at a care home.

Residents at Sidney Gale House recently welcomed some feathered guests thanks to a cheque donation from a Bridport community group.

Bridport and District Gardening Club, who collected donations at a plant stall at their spring show in March, raised £120 for the house.

Celia Evans, who ran the plant stall, handed the cheque to Lisa Warne, manager of Sidney Gale House in April.

Jules Walker, activities organiser at Sidney Gale House alongside Sharon MacDonald, asked the residents what they wanted to do with the money donated.

Residents voted to have a visit from Xtreme Falconry Ltd, who are based in Marshwood.

Xtreme Falconry Ltd visited the home in May, and brought with them baby and mature owls.

Jules said: "The residents really enjoyed seeing the owls and listening to Martin's very interesting talk.

"A lovely morning was had by all, many thanks to Bridport Gardening Club whose kind donation made this possible."

Bridport and District Gardening Club meet in the WI Hall, and the spring show was one of their two shows in the calendar year.

The next is their late summer show on Saturday, September 1, with the club currently inviting people to knit, cook, sew, paint or plant for it.
