The revitalisation of an historic event has been boosted by the support of the community.

Bridport Charter Fair is set to host its first photography competition when it returns next month and organisers say they are pleased with the generous donations made so far by local businesses and the public.

Organised by local photographer Mark Margetts, in partnership with Bridport Camera Club, the Bridport-themed competition has five categories; Landscape, Portrait, Street, Architecture and Smart Phone.

Each category winner will received a prize package of three professional quality prints - up to size A3 - donated by event sponsor Procanvas.

The Judges Choice Award will present the overall winner with 12 months' free membership of the camera club.

Two runners-up from each category will have their work displayed in the window of Footeprints for the Community Choice Award and everyone can vote for their favourite at the tourist information centre. The winner will have their photo printed on to a canvas donated by Footeprints, one of the charter fair’s main sponsors.

All of the photos mentioned will be exhibited at Bridport Arts Centre for a period leading up to the fair and at the event itself.

Competition entry forms are available from the TIC, Arts Centre and via the charter fair Facebook page at facebook.com/BridportCharterFair.

Closing date for entries is Sunday, July 29.

Hard work has being going on behind the scenes to inject the charter fair with a new lease of life, with many volunteers stepping forward to offer their skills. The event is set to return with a new look, thanks to a new, modern logo donated by freelance designer Mike Bloys.

For the first time in many years, the fair will be focused on the Arts Centre and Bucky Doo Square. Throughout the day, the square will be filled with an eclectic mix of singers and musicians, reflecting the diverse talents to be found locally and, for the first time in some years, the Arts Centre auditorium will also be packed with community stalls and the stage with demonstrations by local groups.

Bridport Charter Fair will take place on Saturday, September 29.
