An 'exciting phase' lies ahead for a youth and community centre - and you can get involved.

Bridport Youth and Community Centre is looking for new trustees as it prepares to open a daily after-school youth café.

Chairman and town councillor Ros Kayes said: "We opened our doors as a charity in September 2016 and we've got an excellent team with a range of skills in place but we're looking to expand our skills base with people who have knowledge of building, surveying, architecture, social media, websites and business planning.

"We've had a massively successful first 18 months, having managed to maintain and expand the number of community groups using the building - which includes mental health groups, aerial skills, boxing, basketball, youth music, stock car building, toddler groups, art groups and more - and to keep youth club and the sound recording studio running.

"Now we are about to employ a youth development worker and are looking to set up a daily after-school youth café for young people ‎in Bridport and to redesign the downstairs of the building and how it is used.

"This will be an exciting phase for any new trustees to be involved in."

The team behind the youth and community centre have been working with Colfox pupils to find out what it is young people want so the centre can reflect their needs.

Cllr Kayes said: We'd really love it if any recently retired or simply youth focused Bridport residents with some of these skills wanted to join our very fun-loving and dynamic team of trustees.‎

"We meet once a month on a Monday afternoon for a couple of hours and we have some subgroups that meet for a couple of hours a month too - so four hours a month would be a maximum input, apart from when we do fundraising events, when everyone mucks in, and an annual development away day.

"We'd love to have more people on board."
