A diverse showcase of work by artists who met while studying ceramics can be seen at the Town Mill's Courtyard Gallery from tomorrow (15).

Paper and Clay, by artists who studied at Bath Spa University and regularly exhibit in Lyme, can be seen until June 27.

Cath Bloomfield is a collage print artist who explores colour, texture and narrative through this technique. Inspired by natural forms from the Wiltshire landscape where she lives, Cath uses various materials to create a lively visual conversation.

Ceramicist Belinda Brownlee works with white earthenware using moulds and liquid clay and decorating directly onto the plaster by mono printing with coloured slips. Her ideas start by sketching, mark making and combining colours.

Denise de Freitas builds her ceramic vessels by hand, using sheets of paper clay to which layers of coloured slips are applied and then taken away, creating a depth of surface. Her inspiration is taken from old buildings, peeling paint and rusting ironwork.

Local Lyme ceramicist Linda Bristow is also inspired by the natural environment, especially meadow flowers and wild areas. She hand builds her fragile sculptures and presses flowers into small clay tiles to create intricate wall pieces.

Appropriately named Alison Potter makes brightly coloured earthenware figurative vases and boats. Each is unique, capturing a specific idea or emotion, and all are meant to amuse.
