Prepare to board your tractors to raise awareness for young farmer clubs.

Beaminster Young Farmers Club will host their first tractor run on Sunday, July 1.

The event invites everyone turn up in their tractors at the start point, Burstock Grange Farm, to check out everyone else's machinery over a bacon sandwich.

It provides an opportunity for the elder members of the club to show off their vintage tractors, whilst younger members turn up in the biggest tractor they can find.

When it's time to begin the run, everyone will start their engines and exit the field one by one in a convoy, following a predetermined route.

The route finishes at a local pub, with food and a drink provided at The Squirrel Inn, Laymore, by kind permission of Gerald and Tracey Hobbs.

Angus Staples, Beaminster Young Farmers Club chairman, said: "Beaminster Young Farmers have decided to hold their first tractor run.

"We wanted to start an event that reached out to the farming community whilst also bringing it together in one place. We also plan on using our tractor run as a way of promoting the young farmers movement and our own young farmers club.

"A tractor run has the ability to reach out to all generations, with them all coming out in good spirit, as the parents and grandparents all have the opportunity to take part in the event and even the little ones enjoying the ride by being able to sit in the passenger seat.

"A tractor run has the ability to get the attention of people who are unaware of young farmers, as there are not many sights that are more eye-catching than the sight of loads of tractors going past one by one in a long line.

"The publicity a tractor run brings to the club, means more people are likely to look us up and find out what we get up to, from the sociable activities we do for ourselves, such as cinema trips and farm visits, as well as fundraising we do raising money for charity's year after year doing events such as bingo."

The run will start from Burstock Grange Farm at 11am, with entry costing £10 per tractor and £5 per passenger, with under 10s able to participate for free, with lunch included in the price.

The club will also be offering the chance to buy raffle tickets.
