A football team have been given the chance to play where their heroes have trained.

Lyme Regis Football Club under 12s boys and girls side are getting the trip of a lifetime on June, 16, when 10 lucky members will take part in the Rotary u12's five-a-side football competition.

The competition will take place at St Georges Park, the FA national football centre in Burton upon Trent.

The £105 million facility opened in 2012, and is the home to England's 28 national teams, with 13 outdoor pitches, including a replica of the Wembley surface.

The youngsters will get the opportunity to not just visit the place where their heroes learned their skills, but actually playing on the same pitches, named after football greats like Gordon Banks and Gary Lineker.

Their participation in this competition has been arranged by The Rotary of Lyme Regis, with a generous grant towards expenses and a new strip for the event.

The competition is played under five-a-side rules.

The squads consist of up to 10 players, both boys and girls, with a team of five on the field at any one time, and substitutions allowed at any time during a game.

Rotarian Jim Moseley, said: "Every young football player dreams of playing at St Georges Park.

"The competition is arranged in leagues and we expect to have at least 10 matches, with the top four teams going on to semi-finals, and then the finals.

"The players are really enthusiastic and excited at the prospect of playing at the home of the FA, and Rotary is delighted to be able to afford them of that opportunity.

"We wish them all the very best."
