A community group that promised to do their best delivered on that promise.

The 1st Bridport Scout and Cub Group did their bit for the environment by organising two litter picks on local beaches.

The group did so in response to the recent media coverage surround the amount of rubbish and waste that has been washing up on beaches or left lying around.

The first pick took place at Cogden beach, where the Scout section scoured the beach across to West Bexington and to just before Burton Bradstock.

Section assistant, Paul Dunn, said: "The whole area was surprisingly clear, but we still collected five bags of rubbish.

"This was primarily discarded fishing line and small items of plastic, although one very rust trailer/caravan coupling was collected."

The litter pick saw equipment provided by the Dorset Waste Partnership, who support groups providing assistance.

Gemma Clinton, head of service (Strategy) at the Dorset Waste Partnership, said: “The Dorset Waste Partnership is proud to support litter-picks taking place within our local communities.

"We can provide equipment, help with organisation and arrange for the pick-up of rubbish afterwards.

"Residents can find out more at www.dorsetforyou.gov.uk/litter-picks.

"We wished the 1st Bridport Scout Group all the best with their beach cleans and look forward to working with them again in the future.”

The scout group will be hosting a market stall at Bridport Market on Saturday, May 26, where they will be selling their wooden patio planters, wooden hanging planters, nesting boxes and more which they have made over the past couple of weeks.
